According to the wiki, it's based on "Karumai High School". There aren't any schools with that name when you search it but if you look at the schools in street view you can see this is the school they meant :).

The area around Karumai High School was used to create the area around Karasuno. Karumai High School is located on top of a hill. At the bottom of that hill, there is a small store. Karsuno is also located on top of a hill that has a store a t its bottom (Sakanoshita Shop).

I went to "Karasuno High School". Another solo travel and this time, in Japan. I did a Haikyuu!! pilgrimage earlier and of course the highlight is seeing Karumai High School where Karasuno was based on. It was also my first time to experience snow. Tanaka-san who manages the Haikyuu!! Welcome Center is very kind and helpful.

The male uniform consists of the classic black gakuran, white collared shirt, cream sweater and black pants. The women have a different uniform, which consists of a white.

Karumai High School in Iwate is the visual reference for Karasuno, down to the exact buildings. The other schools are partially visually based on other nearby schools, universities, gyms, etc. But it's just a visual reference, because it's where the manga author went to school and grew up. There's no volleyball related story behind that.
